About the Department
Established in the year 1992, the Department offers M.Sc., PG Diploma and Ph.D. programmes in Biotechnology. The students are admitted by selection through the entrance examination conducted on all India basis. The Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India has been supporting our M.Sc. Biotechnology teaching programme. To augment the infrastructure facility and vibrant research, the members of the faculty attract extramural funding from both national (UGC, DBT, DST, CSIR, AICTE and BRNS) and international (Rockefeller Foundation and Danish Government) agencies. The publications coming out from the Department attest the exemplary of research work carried out in the Department.
As a woman in education and research I like to teach basic sciences and motivate students and research scholars for applied research and inculcate moral values too. Aiming at translation research, my work involves medicinal plants, marine algae and AYUSH drugs for metabolic and degenerative disorders with major grants from various funding agencies. My networking for collaborative research and leadership skills is presently nurturing entrepreneurial activities among students and scholars to make them self-reliant through their innovative ideas. I believe that sincerity and hard work will take us to greater heights with the blessings of the Almighty.
