M.Sc. Biotechnology

Established in the year 1992, the Department offers two- year M.Sc. Biotechnology program. The department offers a wonderful environment for teaching, learning, and research holistically. The department is bestowed with excellent faculty members with wide exposure globally and is involved in basic and applied research in different areas of biotechnology. The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India has been supporting our M.Sc. Biotechnology teaching program for more than two decades. The admissions are based on an All India entrance examination conducted by DBT, Govt. of India. Students who are selected based on their Graduate Aptitude Test- Biotechnology (GAT-B) score will receive a stipend of Rs 5000/- per month. From time to time, need-based courses are designed taking into consideration the latest developments in frontier areas of biotechnology for teaching M.Sc. Biotechnology students. The major areas of teaching include Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Techniques in Biotechnology, Molecular Genetics, Immunology, Radiation Biology, Molecular Plant Breeding, Bioprocess Technology, Stem Cell Biology, Genetic Engineering, Microbial Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Marine Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Environmental Biotechnology, Genomics, Proteomics, and Bioinformatics. The summer internship and project dissertation is mandatory to all students which helps them to gain hands-on experience in their field of interest under the guidance of the respective faculty. The students who studied in the department under this program are competent to clear competitive exams (CSIR, UGC, DBT, ICMR, and GATE) and are well placed in academic institutions, research laboratories, and industries both in India and abroad.
