About
The UNESCO chair on “Renewable and Clean Energy for Sustainable Development” was established in UNESCO Madanjeet School of Green Energy Technologies (UMSGET) at Pondicherry University (2024-2028) to promote green and clean energy technologies. Collaborating with UNESCO, MSF, and SAF-India, the UNESCO Chair firmly commits to providing intellectual knowledge and professional training to promote renewable energy in South Asia and globally for sustainable development. The UNESCO chair is to work with governments, schools, colleges, universities, industries, NGOs, businesses, researchers, technology developers and environmentally conscious individuals working towards the promotion/development of renewable energy technologies for sustainable development.
The Chairholder: Professor. R. Arun Prasath
Prof. R. Arun Prasath holds the newly established UNESCO Chair as agreed mutually by UNESCO, Paris, and Pondicherry University with the financial support of SAF-India and MSF. Professor R. Arun Prasath brings vast international exposure (Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, and the USA) as a researcher. He received several prestigious awards, such as DAAD, BOF, and RAMAN Fellow. His early international exposure at the Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz, GERMANY (1999-2001). He worked as a researcher in several prestigious institutes, as a research associate at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, INDIA (2002-2004), a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UNITED KINGDOM (2004-2006) and at University of New South Wales, Sydney, AUSTRALIA (2006-2008), and as a senior researcher in Ghent University (2008-2010), BELGIUM with BOF fellowship and received the prestigious RAMAN fellowship to work at University of Wyoming, USA in the year 2014-15. He leads a research group on energy materials/device fabrication for conversion and storage to promote renewable energy for sustainability. Under his leadership, the UNESCO chair aims to promote greener and cleaner energy technologies, energy security, and sustainable development. The chair advocates for a rapid and massive transformation toward renewable energy to address global climate change issues and promote renewable energy in South Asia and globally for sustainable development.
