Research Area
After his Ph.D. at Delhi University, joined as Fellow at TERI (Tata Energy Research Institute), New Delhi where he worked till 1996 and moved to Centre for Genetic Manipulation of crop plants, University of Delhi, South Campus as Senior Research Scientist until 2006. During that time, he was involved in Brassica improvement programme with focus on genetic transformation, somatic cell hybridization, microspore culture in Brassica species. He was instrumental in transformation, generation, maintenance in GM mustard (DMH11). In 2006, joined as Reader at Pondicherry University and rose to become full professor to pursue teaching, do research and research guidance. His research interests include utilizing Molecular Biology and Biotechnology tools for crop improvement. He has guided nearly 20 M.Sc. and 6 Ph.D. students so far. He has handled many projects funded by agencies like DBT, CSIR, UGC and USFW. He is abreast of molecular biology techniques and also aware of the regulatory procedures to be followed during development, characterization and commercialization of transgenic plants. He has published over 50 research articles in peer reviewed National and International journals. He is an elected member of Academy of Sciences (Chennai) and also an elected member of Plant Tissue Culture Association of India (PTCAI).
