About the Department

The Department of Hindi, established in 1993, is committed to providing quality education and fostering intensive study and research in Hindi language, literature, and its applied domains. The academic focus extends to areas such as translation, media studies, comparative literature, language technology, and various contemporary discourses.

The curriculum is regularly revised in alignment with the University Grants Commission’s model syllabus and updated with expert consultation and formal academic approval. The Department offers a range of innovative and interdisciplinary courses that address emerging areas of study and equip students with relevant skills for professional advancement. Several of these courses are also available in English to enhance accessibility and outreach.

The Department plays a pioneering role in promoting e-literacy in Indian language computing and has adopted innovative practices in teaching, learning, and evaluation. ICT-enabled pedagogical methods—such as interactive classes, seminars, group discussions, and comprehensive assessment techniques—have enriched the learning experience.

The Department has successfully implemented a number of national and international research projects, which have significantly enriched the academic environment and contributed to research-led teaching practices.

Furthermore, the Department has actively contributed to the development of SWAYAM –  MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), offering open and inclusive learning opportunities. These courses not only support digital learning for the wider public but also enable blended learning experiences for on-campus students

The Department of Hindi is a vibrant academic and research centre committed to promoting excellence in Hindi language, literature, and cultural studies. It offers a holistic educational environment that integrates classical literary scholarship with applied, functional, and interdisciplinary approaches. The Department encourages in-depth exploration in areas such as translation studies, media and communication, comparative literature, and language technology.

A distinctive strength of the Department lies in the diverse specializations of its faculty members, who contribute significantly to teaching, research, and curriculum development. Their expertise spans across Modern Hindi Poetry and Drama, Functional Hindi, Translation, Feminist Literary Theory, Film Discourse, Journalism and New Media Studies, Comparative Literature, Language Technology, Multilingual Computing, Cyber Discourse, and Eco-criticism. These areas reflect the Department’s progressive academic outlook and responsiveness to contemporary intellectual and societal discourses.

The Department actively promotes emerging areas of scholarship, including digital humanities, ICT-enabled education, cyber culture, and environmental humanities, positioning itself at the intersection of tradition and innovation. Faculty-designed courses often incorporate interdisciplinary perspectives and are aligned with current trends to enhance both academic engagement and professional development of students. Select courses are also offered in Bilingual / English to cater to a wider academic audience.  Open course on Spoken Hindi is also being offered for enthusiasts to learn spoken Hindi skill.

The Department is also known for its proactive participation in national and international research projects and its significant contribution to the development of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), extending its reach to a broader learner base through open and blended learning models.

Innovative teaching methods employed by the faculty members enrich the learning experience and foster critical thinking, ethical inquiry, and creativity.

The Department has good infrastructural facilities including interactive class rooms, Computers with internet and Wi-Fi facilities and ICT teaching aids to assist teachers and student in their pursuit of academic excellence.
Hindi Post Graduates have wide scope in various organizations such as Central Govt. and State Govt. organizations, Public Sector Undertakings, Govt. Enterprises, Public Sector Banks, Media and Publication Houses, etc. as Translators, Hindi Officers, Editors; and in Educational Institutions of various levels as Teachers. Those who acquired Ph.D. Degree and cleared NET are eligible for placement in Colleges, Universities and Higher Education Institutions. Our students are represented from various states all over the Country. Many students have cleared UGC-NET and JRF Examinations. Our students have been placed well in various Govt. organizations, Universities, Banks and other Organizations. Special orientation and counseling programmes are being conducted for the students with an aim to nurture their knowledge and skills which ensures better employability. Campus Placement Drive also arranged time to time.
