- CENTRAL INSTRUMENTATION FACILITIES
Pursuing excellence in teaching and research within Science Schools necessitates the availability of advanced and sophisticated equipment, diverse workshops, and comprehensive support facilities. These resources are essential for faculty members, research scholars, and students to engage in globally competitive research and development in both basic and applied sciences. Recognizing that individual researchers often face challenges in securing substantial funding for research instruments, the Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) was established at Pondicherry University several years ago. Its mission is to enhance shared resources to foster research and development, guided by the following objectives:
- To bolster the technological infrastructure required for conducting advanced research across various scientific disciplines in a centralized location, thereby making these services accessible to academic schools and departments.
- To offer guidance in data acquisition and provide training for personnel in operating and maintaining sophisticated instruments.
- To conduct short-term courses and workshops focused on using and applying various spectroscopic and analytical techniques for students, educators, and technical staff from our university, affiliated institutions, universities, and regional industries.
- CENTRAL ANIMAL HOUSE FACILITY
The Central Animal House Facility (CAHF) at Pondicherry University was inaugurated in 2008 to support the research requirements of various academic departments within the institution. CAHF is officially registered with the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA), which functions under the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, New Delhi (Registration Number: 1159/GO/Re/S/08/CPCSEA). All research involving laboratory animals at CAHF complies with the guidelines established by CPCSEA, New Delhi, as well as the institutional protocols monitored by the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC).
Located in a serene campus area, the Central Animal House Facility (CAHF) provides an ideal environment for animals, ensuring it is free from noise and pollution. The facility is specifically designed for small animal research, incorporating quarantine and experimental rooms dedicated to rodents and rabbits. It adheres to a conventional design, with distinct rooms for each species, where temperature, humidity, and light-dark cycles are meticulously controlled. The animal species employed in various research initiatives have been approved by the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC), and the health of the animals is consistently overseen by a qualified Veterinary Doctor.
- EDUCATIONAL MULTIMEDIA RESEARCH CENTRE (EMMRC)
The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC) was established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) at Pondicherry University, following a Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among the UGC, the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), and Pondicherry University. The EMMRC is entirely funded by the UGC and is managed by Pondicherry University, marking it as the first institution of its kind in the Puducherry Region, which encompasses Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, Yanam, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep.
The primary objective of the Research Centre is to enhance educational access for marginalized communities by leveraging technologies such as Satellite Television, the Internet, and Webcasting to connect with students in remote areas across the nation. The EMMRC boasts a state-of-the-art space studio and a post-production facility, establishing itself as a premier centre for educational television production and multimedia courses.
