About the Department

Vision: To motivate the students towards conceptual realization.

Mission: To mould the students to be the backbone of modern technologies in the field of Electronics & Communication Engineering.

The Department of Electronics Engineering is the first Engineering Department, which has been established under the School of Engineering and Technology in the Academic Year 2010 –11 during the XI Plan. The prime aim of the Department is to impart quality research in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering to meet the increasing demand for highly qualified technical personnel. The department offers two programs namely, Master of Technology (ECE) with specialization in Intelligent Communication Systems and Doctor of Philosophy in Electronics & Communication Engineering, which is specifically designed to meet the needs of Digital India’s objective in the areas of Electronics and Communication for both the design, development and implementation. The department provides opportunities for the students to pursue multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary courses. Our curriculum provides a strong base to the students in Electronics and Communication Engineering and provides exposure to the latest technologies. The course and laboratory contents are being revised from time to time so as to keep abreast with the latest developments and emerging technologies. The department has competent faculty members and non-teaching staff. The faculty members are actively involved in teaching and world-class research to cater the societal and industrial needs. The major areas of faculty expertise include Antennas, Digital Image Processing, Digital Signal Processing, Microwave/Millimeter-wave/Terahertz Engineering, MEMS/NEMS, Optical Communication, Pattern Recognition, Speech Processing, Steganography and Cryptography, Embedded Systems and VLSI Design, 5G & Future Technology, Wireless Communication, Wireless Networks, Internet of Things, Optical Communication, RF Design and Technology, Device Modeling. The research activity of the department includes both fundamental research and sponsored projects.

Vision and Message of Head of Department

  • Professor

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Electronics Engineering. The Electronics Engineering Department of Pondicherry University remains at the forefront of educating and training the next generation of Engineers with leading-edge technology. With its streamlined methodology, the Department moulds budding professionals to make history through their positive contributions. The greatest asset of the department is its highly qualified and motivated faculty. The available diversity of expertise of the faculty with the support of the other staff prepares the students to work in the global multicultural environment.

The Department has always been the trendsetter of this Institution. One of the largest and fastest growing fields of Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering covers a wide range of applications, which makes our lives highly advanced, sophisticated and comfortable. This branch of Electronics Engineering had started functioning here ever since 2010 and plays an active role in this fast-moving world, by way of training the students with the state of the art Electronics and Communication Systems. The goal of the department is to provide students with a balance of intellectual and practical experiences that enable them to serve a variety of societal needs. Since the establishment of the department, many students from our department have made an indelible mark nationally and internationally in the field of Electronics & Communication and make us proud. The Department not only aims to make our students technically sound and knowledgeable but also to nurture their wisdom and make them better and responsible human beings.

The Department offers a comprehensive education, thereby preparing the students to emphasize the role of engineers in making a positive contribution to the betterment of society and the human condition. The Department mix of practical and theoretical experiences and our commitment to academic and ethical excellence cultivate outstanding Electronics engineers who are highly sought-after for both higher education and employment. We have grown into a most sought after Department in Pondicherry University, adding more faculty members and planning to start B.Tech. (ECE) as per NEP-2020.

The Department is making exhilarating progress in areas ranging from Electronics, RF and Microwave Engineering, Mobile and Wireless Communication to VLSI and Embedded System design. The team approach is very warm in the Department of Electronics Engineering. A palpable excitement surrounds the Department and an enthusiasm pervades every classroom and lab, invigorating our students and spurring our faculty to fresh innovations. In an age when electronics play a major role in daily life and the promise of the latest technologies coming to fruition, it is truly a great time to be a part of the Electronics Engineering Department of Pondicherry University.
