M.Tech. ECE (Intelligent Communication Systems)

M.Tech. (ECE) with Specialization in Intelligent Communication Systems The Department of Electronics Engineering was established under the School of Engineering and Technology in the Academic Year 2010-11 during XI Plan. The prime aim of the Department is to impart quality and a conducive environment for doing research and development in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering as well as in Emerging Technologies to meet the increasing demand for highly qualified technical personnel. Electronics and Communication Engineering is one of the largest and fastest-growing fields of Engineering. This field is the resultant of the pragmatic application of Science and Mathematical concepts to practical problems in the area of  Wireless Communication Systems. Further, this branch of Engineering deals with the analysis, design and development of devices and sub-systems for the establishment of effective and efficient Communication Systems. Besides Doctor of Philosophy, the Department offers postgraduate, full-time two years program leading to the degree of M.Tech. (ECE) with a Specialization in Intelligent Communication Systems. The curriculum structure of M.Tech. (ECE) with Specialization in Intelligent Communication Systems program for  specialization is framed such that it consists of i. Hard Core courses (Compulsory) ii. Soft Core courses (Electives) iii. Laboratory iv. Online course v. Internship vi. Skill-Based Training vii. Project work both hard-core and soft-core courses consist of lecture delivery and tutorials conducted by the respective faculty member. The instructional activities that are a part of the syllabus as the fifth unit in all courses are done by students themselves in the form of submission of assignments, taking seminars, development of prototype systems and performing the simulation task under the mentor-ship of corresponding faculty in-charge. The minimum number of credits to be acquired for successful completion of the program is 84 credits. M.Tech. (ECE) with Specialization in Intelligent Communication Systems (Duration: 2 years – Full Time) Eligibility: Candidates who are holding any one of the following degrees alone shall be considered for this M.Tech Programme: B.E. / B.Tech. with at least 55% marks (or) equivalent in Electronics & Communication Engineering/ Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering / Electronics Engineering/ Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering/ Instrumentation & Control Engineering/Information Technology/Computer Science & Engineering/Robotics Engineering/Robotics & Automation/ Biomedical Engineering/Mechatronics. A valid GATE qualified candidate will be given preference.

Focus Areas

.

of the program

Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning

This is the fast growing; forward-thinking area of research requires an open and cross-disciplinary approach across academia, industry and policy. Ensuring data, methods, applications and knowledge are open and available will be necessary in order to keep pace with the rapid developments in machine learning and AI and allow it to remain a fundamental part of future technologies. The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Gateway provides researchers and policymakers with a dedicated publishing venue to openly disseminate research focused on the development and applications of machine learning and AI. The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Gateway will cover key areas such as: • Applications of AI and machine learning across other disciplines, such as Electronics & Communication Engineering/Computer Science & Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Bio-informatics and Social Sciences, etc., • Deep learning and neural networks • Fundamental developments in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, such as AI development, Machine Learning models and intelligent machines • Cybersecurity, including security measures, protecting sensitive information and preventing malicious software • Internet of Things and ‘smart’ technology

Digital & Wireless Communications

The Digital and Wireless Communications area will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to work in the wide-ranging telecommunications industry. The goal of the program is to touch on all the vital topics needed to produce a well-rounded digital communications professional. This leads to a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems, which utilizes Mitel telecommunications hardware and solutions. The program also covers Wide Area Network (WAN) design and maintenance, utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) to modify Outside Plant (OSP) drawings. Concepts involved in location and GPS systems are taught, which are used for wireless systems location and tracking. The wireless training concludes with a course on practical applications of wireless communication systems. This area strongly focuses on digital communications concepts and introduces the Internet of Things (IoT) using Raspberry Pi and the Arduino microcontroller. The program culminates in an IoT project as well as a short industry placement in the form of a practicum. Skills in the telecommunications industry are in high demand. If you like working with computers and electronic equipment, if you have good analytical skills, and if you want to work in an exciting, dynamic industry, the Digital Communications and Wireless Technologies program can open the door to a variety of exciting careers.

Microwave/Millimeter-wave/Terahertz Engineering

RF/Microwave/Terahertz Engineering constitute a vital area of Communication Engineering encompassing design, modeling, simulation, experimentation and analysis of single devices, circuits, sub-systems and packaging. Microwave/Millimeter-wave/Terahertz Engineering are at the heart of many electronic applications such as 5G/6G/7G/ Cellular Phones, WiFi, RFID, GPS, RADAR and Satellites, Space, Biomedical, Imaging, Fusion Energy, sensing systems, Energy Harvesting and Basic Science etc. The research efforts of the Microwave/Millimeter-wave/Terahertz Engineering Faculty, Scholars and Students are engaged in a range of basic and applied research projects that focus on embrace both hardware implementations and theoretical studies in electromagnetic theory, antennas and RF, microwave and millimeter-wave circuits and systems, Terahertz Engineering for government, industry and defence related applications in the frequency range from approximately 100 MHz to 10 THz.

Optical Communications & Networking:

Optical Communications and Networks is key technology field in today’s information age, providing unprecedented communication capacity and cost-effective interconnection capability to support bandwidth-hungry applications, such as ultra-broadband access, cloud computing, content sharing and storage, and continuously evolving generations of wireless communication. Our research vision requires ultra-broadband, ultra-long-reach transmission links, fully-transparent, ultra-fast nodes for routing signal streams, flexible, high-density optical interconnect solutions and high-capacity links – including wireless links – to the end user. It also necessitates functions for autonomously mapping users’ location and service requirements to the network’s resources. Sustainability is a leading theme in our research. Optical communication, based on optical fiber and free-space optical beams, is the technology that can make this vision a reality. It is the technology underlying the explosion of bandwidth and bandwidth-related services that we now all take for granted and which enables us to connect users, homes, cities, countries and continents to form the physical layer for the World Wide Web.
