The Department of Commerce is one of the nucleolus departments of Pondicherry University established in the year 1986. It offers a specialized Post Graduate course in Commerce Viz.,
M.Com.(Business Finance). The Department of Commerce is one of the pioneering departments of Pondicherry University. Differentiating itself from the traditional M.Com course, the Department came into existence to offer a much sought after academic programme viz, M.Com (Business Finance) with the focus on ‘Finance’.
M.Com. (Accounting & Taxation) programme as a flagship programme in commemoration of PU Silver Jubilee year of PU 2011-12. on words. The Department has introduced another specialized M.Com. (Accounting & Taxation) programme from the academic year 2011-2012. This course is designed to fill the man power requirement having Accounting and Taxation knowledge other than professional courses like Charted Accountancy and Cost Accountancy in the corporate sector.
The curriculum of both the programme provide the learners a systematic and rigorous learning and exposure on conventional as well as contemporary areas in the discipline of commerce with a special focus in the areas of Accounting, Finance and other Quantitative techniques of decision making like Statistics, Financial Mathematics and Business Analytics. In addition, Managerial /Entrepreneurial skills of the students is developed by adopting practical approaches such as live case study, business games, assignment writing and application of digital technology, internship and project work components.
The Department also offers a Ph.D. programme and encourages research in the field of Accounting, Finance, Banking, Stock Markets and other related fields. The Department has been recognised by UGC under SAP (DRS-II) to achieve academic excellence with the thrust on one of the most contemporary areas in finance i.e. “Derivatives and Risk Management”. The Award of SAP is a proof of the capability and credentials of the learned faculty of this department and the team work. It has good number of publications in national and international journal. Conducted 9 International and Conferences, in addition to 26+ National Seminars and Workshops.
I am happy to say the department is continuously striving for Nation Building process by identifying, orienting and training, imparting knowledge, skills set and values together in shaping the young talent pool into a competent human resources so to deliver their best for the betterment of the society, industry and country at large.
