Kamalraja Jayabal was born in Vadalur Tamilnadu, India. He obtained his Bachelor degree in Chemistry from Periyar Arts and Science College, Cuddalore in 2007. After that, he joined Master’s in Chemistry and obtained his degree from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai in 2009. Also, he had completed M.Phil. degree in Pondicherry University, Puducherry in 2010. After qualified CSIR-JRF, he joined CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai for his doctoral studies under the supervision of Dr. P. T. Perumal and received his Ph.D. from University of Madras in 2015. Currently, he is working as Assistant Professor in Department of Chemistry, Pondicherry University in the scheme of DST-INSPIRE faculty program. He also worked as a visiting faculty in National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan under the supervision of Prof. Chien-Hong Cheng.

His research work is mainly focused on synthesis of novel and biologically significant heterocyclic compounds via environmentally friendly approach and transition metal mediated C-H activation and synthesis of photoluminescence materials for solar cell and OLED applications.
