Professor M. Balamurugan has completed his Graduation in Mathematics from University of Madras and Post-Graduation in Mathematics and Education and Doctorate in Education (2002) from the oldest and reputed Southern region Indian University- Annamalai University. He also qualified for Post graduate in Psychology from the University of Madras. He has specialised in the area of Mathematics Education and his area of Doctoral research work in the field of Cognitive and Bio-Psychology in Mathematical Problem Solving. He started his career as faculty of Education in DIET in 2003.Later he worked in MSM College of Education- Kerala and SRM University-Kattankulathur (Chennai). He distinguished himself as a faculty in Periyar University Salem (State University) and at present he has been working in the Pondicherry University since 2009 in various stages as Reader, Associate Professor and as a Professor. He has completed 24 years of Teaching Experience in the field of Education and has guided more than 80 post-graduate students, 23 M.Phil., students and 10 Ph.D., Scholars successfully. Currently 5 Ph.D., Scholars are pursuing their research under his guidance in the area of Education. He has written 3 course materials in the discipline of Education at Periyar University.
He has published several research articles/publications in the refereed Journals at National and International level and has presented more than 90 research papers at National and International Seminar and Conferences and attended more than 15 workshops since 2003 till date, 2025. He has completed one UGC-MRP. At present he is acting as a Co-investigator in one of the NIEPA project in the area of โ€˜Technology in Teaching and Learningโ€™. With his expertise, he has been serving as a Coordinator, PG Diploma in Teaching Skills, Pondicherry University.
He has been actively engaged as a member in many committees in the field of Education as NCTE- Visiting Team Inspection Member, Member in Projects evaluation committee (New Delhi), member in selection committee of the select Universities and member in CDC affiliation / selection committee (Periyar University and Pondicherry University). Board of Studies Member both UG and PG in the discipline of Education. He has acted as an Observer in National level Examinations conducted by UGC & NTA. He has been serving as a Ph.D., Examiner at a maximum number of Universities in India. His contributions in the field of education are wide in number. He has organized 4 national level seminar and workshops in Pondicherry University and Periyar University. His social and academic outlooks are a practical and pragmatic approach to reach the stake holders. His vision and missions are publications, projects and guidance for institutional development and making the output to reach the academic destination at the global level with innovative perspectives for the benefit of the socially and economically oppressed society. He has been working sincerely to fulfil the needs of students from various background in view of the higher education institutions.
