B B Mohanty is a Professor of Sociology at Pondicherry University in Puducherry. After obtaining Ph.D from Sambalpur University, Odisha, he worked at Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune and then joined Pondicherry University as a Professor in 2006. Dr. Mohanty served as Head of the Department of Sociology for 9 years and was also the Dean of School of Social Sciences and International Studies, Pondicherry University (2021-2024). He has published several papers in leading national and international journals and books with reputed publishing houses. Dr. Mohanty served as the Managing Editor of the Sociological Bulletin (Journal of Indian Sociological Society) for a period of five years (2020-2024) and is associated with the editorial boards of many journals and several professional bodies at national and international levels. He has visited many countries including USA, UK, France, Canada, Sweden, Thailand, Denmark, Australia and Sri Lanka on academic assignments. Dr. Mohanty held many important positions in government and quasi-government bodies including the Independent Director of the National Seeds Corporation Limited, Government of India (2017-2020) and currently he is a member of ICSSR, New Delhi and member of Board of Management, NIEPA, New Delhi.
