About
Research Area

I am Dr. Appalakondaiah Samudrala, currently working as an Assistant professor at the Department of Physics, Pondicherry University. My doctoral (at the University of Hyderabad, India) and postdoctoral (at Sungkyunkwan University and University of Seoul, South Korea) research works are mainly focused on the investigation of fundamental properties for various materials such as bulk to low-dimensional materials moire structures, etc., by developing multi-scale modelling methods (the combination of density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamics, and Tight binding (TB) approaches). I also received the prestigious SERB – Ramanujan Fellowship (2022) award and worked as a Ramanujan Fellow at the Department of Physics, IIT-Jodhpur from March 2022 to September 2023.

My current research activities are towards developing devices and examining their underlying properties for correlated phenomena and optoelectronic technologies. A few of my important research interests are mentioned below:

1) Development of multi-scale methods for moire superlattices

2) Design & examine the electronic and optical properties of quantum materials

3) Electronic and transport properties of Metal-semiconductor interfaces

4) Investigation of topological properties using first principles and TB methods

5) Quasiparticle electronic and optical properties

6) Structural and dynamical stability of low-dimensional materials
