About the Centre

Established in July 1999, the Centre offers M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in Women’s Studies. The overall approach to Women’s Studies in this Centre is multidisciplinary. The prime aim of the Centre is the creation of a critical awareness and sensitivity towards women’s issues in every field. The courses are open to students across genders. A holistic approach to gender studies is envisaged. It encourages women’s academic development and empowerment, the major objective being women’s empowerment, the marking out and the definition of a feminist space.

The following are the thrust areas:

Welcome to the Centre for Women’s Studies!

Established in 1999, the Centre serves as a catalyst for gender equity and empowerment of women. It shares the vision of fostering a more equitable and inclusive society by promoting research and education on women’s issues.

Aligning with the University’s vision, the Centre offers a progressive full-fledged MA programme in Women’s Studies transcending disciplinary boundaries by drawing on various fields to address gender-related issues.

The Ph.D. programme in Women’s Studies emphasizes the role of research in understanding women’s/gender issues and the need to disseminate the findings to the community.

A dedicated team of faculty members not only provides guidance, academic support and mentorship to the students and scholars but also helps in their overall growth and development.
