Research Area
Sendhil R presently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, School of Management, Pondicherry University, and is a former employee of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). He was associated with the ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research (IIWBR), Karnal, from 2011 to January 2022, and also with the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, from 2014 to January 2022, in teaching and mentoring PG and Ph.D. scholars. He is an agricultural economist with around 18 years of professional experience, including approximately 10.5 years in wheat and barley research covering production, marketing, and policy prescription, and about 11 years of experience in teaching and mentorship.
Sendhil is a University Gold Medalist from Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College, Tirupati, for his Post-Graduation, and earned his Doctorate in Agricultural Economics from the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. He has published 138 research papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals of high repute, authored/edited 12 books, and presented his research proposals and findings at various events held in the USA, Canada, Italy, Australia, South Korea, Japan, and Ghana.
He serves as an Associate Editor of Agricultural Economics Research Review, is on the Editorial Board of the Indian Journal of Economics and Development, acts as a peer reviewer for several SCOPUS-indexed journals, and is a Guest Editor for Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems. He has been honored with several recognitions, including Elected Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), Fellow of the Agricultural Economics Research Association (AERA), Lal Bahadur Shastri Outstanding Young Scientist (ICAR), Fellow of the Society for Advancement of Wheat and Barley Research (SAWBAR), the Dr. R.T. Joshi Award from AERA-India, Young Agricultural Economist Award (AERA), Best Worker (IIWBR), Prof. Mahatim Singh Memorial Award (SAWBAR), Uma Lele Mentorship Award (AAEA, USA), NFP Grant, LI-LMI AAEA Award, IARI Fellowship, and ICAR-JRF.
To date, he has completed 14 research projects and is currently executing 2 projects amounting to βΉ1,77,26,330 in total. He was involved in teaching and guiding M.Sc. (4 completed) and Ph.D. (1 completed) scholars at the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal for about 8 years, and is presently guiding 5 Ph.D. scholars at Pondicherry University. His interests include teaching agricultural economics and undertaking transdisciplinary, multi-institutional research aimed at fostering innovations and policy formulation for agricultural transformation.
