Dr. V. V. Ravi Kanth Kumar
About
Research Area
Dr. V.V. Ravi Kanth Kumar who joined as a Reader, Department of Physics, Pondicherry University in May 2006 and presently working as a Professor. Dr Ravi Kanth got Ph.D. degree from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati in 1994. and then worked as a Research Associate at the University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad, India during 1995-2000. After that, Dr Ravi went to UK and worked (2000-2004) as Research officer with a pioneer group of Prof. Philip St.J.Russel, University of Bath, Bath, UK that is well known internationally for the development of Photonic crystal fibers/Holey/microstructured fibers. In Bath, Dr. Ravi fabricated first Tellurite Photonic crystal fiber and demonstrated supercontinuum in SF6 glass photonic crystal fiber. Dr Ravi also worked in Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton, Southampton UK for one year (2005-2007).
Presently, his research group mainly focusses on Glass/Glass-ceramics/Glass-nanocomposites with a focus on Supercontinuum generation/White-light generation/ laser-materials (rare-earth-doped); random metamaterials/ metacomposites for sensor as well as microwave absorption applications.
At Pondicherry University, Dr Ravi Kanth Kumar established Department of Electronics Engineering in 2010, and also worked as a core member of Pondicherry University entrance examination (2011-2020).
Dr Ravi Kanth Kumar Chaired/Head, Department of Physics, Pondicherry University during Sept. 2018-Jan 2022 and University Purse Phase-II coordinator (2017-2022). Presently, Dr Ravi Kanth is a CAS coordinator (since 2020).
