About
Research Area
Dr.Mariappan, with over 30 years of teaching, research and consultancy experience is currently working as a Professor at Department of Banking Technology, Pondicherry University since 2010 and was heading the Department between 2022-2024. Besides his academic engagement, he has been a significant contributor to the administrative matters of the University as a member of various Academic and Administrative Committees – such as Planning Board, Academic Council, The Court, IQAC and University Rankings. He has also actively engaged in various policy making initiatives related to research and consultancy, security and services, formulation and implementation of National Education Policy at Pondicherry University apart from CFI Nodal Officer for South Zone. His nexus with leading educational institutions helped him to be in the Board of Studies and Doctoral Committees. He has completed his post-graduation and doctoral degree from Madurai Kamaraj University and FDP in Management from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
Prior to joining with Pondicherry University, Dr.Mariappan spend about 15 years National Council for Cooperative Training, New Delhi, a training unit under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers‘ Welfare. During this period, he served in various States like Uttrakand, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and New Delhi and exposed to various academic environment and cultural diversity. The last assignment before joining Pondicherry University was with VAMNICOM, Pune, an apex management training institution.
Dr. Mariappan experience spreads into teaching, research and consultancy and has published over 75 research papers and articles in leading national and international journals and delivered talks over 50 national and international conferences, besides over 100 invited talks and special lectures on contemporary issues in the area of banking, finance, financial crimes and strategic management at various forums.
His professional career also comprises of 10 research and consultancy projects for various State Governments including Kerala, Utter Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and government agencies like NCDC, New Delhi. The latest work was for ICSSR, related to Social Media Ethics, Behavior, Cybercrimes and Regulations in India. He is also specialized in conducting tailor-made Entrepreneurship Development (EDP) and Management Development (MDP) programmes for corporates, banks and government officials on various functional aspects of management.
Dr. Mariappan has built strong network with many academic, research, training institutions of national reputation and also industry bodies like – Madras Management Association, Confederation of Indian Industry, Cyber Society of India, Digital Society of India- Chennai etc., His area of interest covers banking, finance, financial crimes, cyber safety and business strategy.
