Research Area
Sivasankar, V is presently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, School of Management, Pondicherry University. Prior joining to Pondicherry University, he worked as an Assistant Professor in the PG and Research Department of Economics, Muthurangam Government Arts College (Autonomous-Under Thiruvallur University), Vellore. He has 14 years of excellence in teaching and research experience. Prior starting is career as Assistant Professor, He awarded his Ph.D. in Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi and earlier he done is UG and PG in Economics at Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, Tamil Nadu and followed his M.Phil. In “Centre for Research on New International Economic Order”, Chennai.
His areas of research are Development Economics, Labour Economics, Gender Economics, Environment Economics and Agrarian Studies. He has published 4 books in reputed publications with book title name as; (1) COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu: Repercussions and the Avenues Ahead, (2) Economic Development and Social Sector Inequality (3) Structural Inequality: Modern Avatars of Exclusion and Discrimination (4) Liberalisation and Women Workers in Leather Industries.
He has published his research work of 11 articles in peer reviewed journals, 3 articles in conference proceedings and 13 articles in chapter of book. He also presented 100 plus research paper in regional, national and international seminars/conferences.
Under his guidance, 1 awarded Ph.D. and 3 more are pursuing their Ph.D. and assisting more than 15 M.Phil. Scholars for their research work.
Besides teaching and researching, He has successfully completed three major projects sponsored by various funding agencies by government titled as; (1) UGC: Major Research Project titled ‘Changing Agrarian Relations and Labour Shortage in Labour Surplus Areas in Tamil Nadu’, (2) ICSSR: Major Research Project titled ‘Women Workers in Leather Industry in Tamil Nadu’ and (3) ICSSR: Major Research Project title ‘A Case Study of Tannery Effluent and Its Impact on Agrarian Communities in Vellore District of Tamil Nadu’. He also organized National Seminars and Research Methodology workshop sponsored by ICSSR.
He has been awarded ‘Young Economist Award in 2017’ by Association of Economists of Tamil Nadu (AET) for being excellence in academic research work.
