Dr. Samarjit Kachari is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronic Media & Mass Communication at Pondicherry University, where he has been teaching since 2009. He completed his M.A. in Mass Communication and Journalism from Tezpur University in 2004 and earned his Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Pondicherry University in 2018.
His research interests include journalism, ethnic media, media policy, and communication for social change. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Samarjit also supervises Ph.D. scholars. He has completed a minor research project sponsored by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is currently leading another research project funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). His work focuses on the intersection of media, communication, and society—particularly how communication can be used to understand and address social issues.
He has published in UGC Care listed and SCOPUS-indexed journals. Beyond academics, he has actively conducted community outreach programmes in collaboration with his students, notably organising awareness campaigns on various social issues through street plays.
Dr. Samarjit has presented papers at both national and international seminars. He has contributed two modules to a MOOC course on Media Laws and Ethics hosted on the Swayam platform. He has also delivered lectures on media and communication in both educational and non-educational institutions.
Before entering academia, Dr. Samarjit worked as a journalist, and served as a media expert for a national rural health programme.
