Research Area
A career vision of a marine biologist from my school days had proceeded to take up this program. On completion of my Masters in Marine Biology and Oceanography from leading Institute in India Centre of Advanced in Marine Biology Annamalai University. The next mission of my PhD had taken up to work on marine microbes especially the Anaerobes where meagre research was reported. under the guidance of Late Prof R. Natarajan a renewed Marine Biologist and Director of the Institute. My research paved me to visit the University of Iowa USA for joint research for few months. On accomplishing exposure to International research attended the Summer program on Microbial Diversity at the worlds famous Woodshole Oceanography Institute, Woodshole USA paved way for interaction with leading scientist of the world expertise in Microbiology. With these exposure presented research papers in international forum at Kenya and Japan. On completion of PhD joined the National Institute of Oceanography Goa a renowned CSIR Institute to be part of the Joint Global Ocean Flux Studies team to understand the Carbon flux from the open waters of Arabian sea. An exposure to participate in 5 Oceanic ship cruises on board ORV Sagar Kanya. Sharing meeting with International experts on our findings. Industrial exposure on treatment of pollution and application of marine enzymes so the outcome of establishing the largest anaerobic digester. Further research at Annamalai University joined the Coastal Ocean Monitoring and Pollution Studies in coastal watersn being a Chief Scientist on board research vessels Sagar Purvi Sagar Paschmi and Russian vessel AA Siderenko.
With this vast research experience joined Pondicherry University in 2002 wherein along with my colleague established the Centre for Ocean and Island Studies at Port Blair Andamans This was upgraded as a full-fledged Department of Ocean Studies and Marine Biology in the year 2004. . Fortunate to experience TSUNAMI I rose from a Lecturer, Reader, Associate Professor and finally as Professor in 2013. Headed the Department from 2017 November to January 2024. Conducted the Regional Science Congress Meet “FUTURE INDIA- Science and Technology Pondicherry Chapter at Andamans in 2018. Hosted the G20 University Connect” programme “Engaging Young Minds” meeting in 2023. Mou had been signed with Indian Institute of Chemical Technology Hyderabad for research exchange program. Have completed 1 Research project and operating 1 project funded by the Ministry of Earth Science -INOIS-under this WAMAN Data buoy had been deployed in Andaman waters. Have played a significant role in getting MOU signed with the Ministry of Earth Science Moes and NIOT under the DEEP SEA Mission V to sponsor the MSc program students with fellowship apart from Infrastructure for the Department. Working out with CDAC under the National Supercomputing mission Nodal Centre at our Campus.
Had been Court, Academic and Executive member of Pondicherry University. Member Board of Studies Goa University. Expert Committee member in appointment of Scientists in the Ministry of Forest and environment. Expert Member of CEFIPRA/IFCPAR) (Indo France) on evaluation of International Projects. Expert Member of National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research. National Green Tribunal court nominated member for exploring the pollution of Pondicherry coast. Best Teacher awarded from Pondicherry University for 3 years. Have completed 10 PhD 5 in process published more than 75 research papers with specialization on Marine Microbial products of marine organism.
