Dr. M. KARUNANIDHI is a distinguished scholar and the current Head of the Department of Tamil at Pondicherry University, where they have been a dedicated faculty member since 2003. With over 23 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership, Dr. M.Karunanidhi has become a prominent voice in the fields of folklore, children’s lore, and manuscript studies. He has written 6 Books. He has received ‘Ulaga Tamizh Mamani Award’ by IMTC in 2022. He published nearly 80 Publications in journals, National & International Seminars. He has guided 12 Ph.D. Scholars successfully and currently 8 scholars doing Ph.D.
After completing a doctorate in Madras University with a specialization in Folklore, Dr. M. Karunanidhi began their academic career with a clear commitment to preserving intangible heritage and exploring the depths of vernacular knowledge systems. Their work stands at the intersection of traditional storytelling, the socio cultural dynamics of children’s play and rhymes, and the textual history of pre modern and early modern manuscripts.
As a folklorist, Dr. M.Karunanidhi has conducted extensive fieldwork across diverse regions, documenting oral narratives, ritual traditions, and per formative folklore practices. Their approach blends ethnographic sensitivity with textual analysis, often focusing on how communal memory is shaped and transmitted through generations.
Dr. M. Karunanidhi continues to be actively involved in academic networks and has been a speaker at various conferences, seminars and Special talks in various institutions.
