Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu inaugurated the short-term programme on “Advances in Physical Education, Sports Sciences and Yoga” and delivered the presidential address at the UGC-MMTTC.
In his inaugural address at the Short-Term Course on “Advances in Physical Education, Sports Sciences and Yoga,” the Vice-Chancellor emphasised the vital role of physical education, scientific sports training and Yoga in promoting holistic human development. He highlighted how modern sports science integrates physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, psychology, neuroscience, data analytics and technology to enhance athletic performance, citing the inspiring achievements of Indian sportspersons at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where India secured six medals. 
Prof. Babu also underlined the importance of Yoga as India’s invaluable contribution to global wellness and advocated rigorous research into its applications in stress management, cognitive health, rehabilitation and preventive healthcare. Stressing the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047, the Vice-Chancellor stated that a developed India must be supported by a healthy, physically active, mentally resilient and productive population. He called upon universities to create an inclusive ecosystem that encourages every student to participate in sports, physical activity or Yoga and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration among Physical Education, Life Sciences, Psychology, Medicine, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Concluding his address, he observed that the integration of physical education, the precision of sports science and the wisdom of Yoga would contribute significantly to national development, youth empowerment and the creation of a healthier and stronger India.
