Department of Tourism Studies, Pondicherry University in association with Equitable Tourism Options (Equations), Bengaluru organized two day National Technical Consultation on Coastal Tourism during 24 & 25, January, 2024 in the School of Management Auditorium
The theme of the Consultation event had been coined as Revisiting the Coastal Commons. The inaugural function was presided by Prof.K. Tharanikkarasu, Vice-Chancellor (officiating), Pondicherry University. The Guest of Honour of the inaugural session was Shri.V.Anbarasan Deputy Inspector General, Commander, Coast Guard, Puducherry and Central Tamil Nadu. Prof.R.C.Anu Chandran, Organising Convener and Head of the Department welcomed the gathering. Prof.Malabika Deo, Dean, School of Management, and Shri.Leo Colaco, and Shri.Ramachandra Bhatta from the NGOs felicitated the occasion. Ms.Joyatri Ray, Director, Equations rendered the Scope of the Technical Consultation. Ms.Priyanka Babu, Lead Research Coordinator for the event proposed the vote of thanks. The event configured Round Tables, Panel Discussions and Special Lectures involving experienced NGO representatives, industry practitioners, entrepreneurs, experts from the public sector, and tourism faculty members from across the country who also interacted with the scholars and students of the Department. The resource persons representing the NGOs from Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Goa such as National Fisherworkers Forum, Snehakunja, Oceans, among others and also from tourism, hospitality, and allied industries deliberated on the pertinent issues that impact their businesses and the prospects and challenges faced by the coastal tourism initiatives.
