Arabic

The importance of Arabic can never be overstated as it is widely spoken by 400 million people in one of the most valuable regions in the world with increasing trade opportunities. The wider reach of Arabic across the Middle East and North Africa also emphasizes its political and diplomatic relevance, making it one of the six official languages of the United Nations. As the Middle East is home to some of the most valuable oil and energy sources, Arabic is key to economic opportunities, international business and diplomatic relations in the region. Arabic’s relevance in India has increased exponentially in the last few years due to the large-scale migration and cultural exchange with Arabic-speaking countries, especially from the Malabar region. In academia, specifically in theology and Middle Eastern Studies, Arabic is learnt for its religious and historical significance as it is the language of the Qur’an.
