Research Area
Dr S Gajalakshmi is a Professor at Centre for Pollution Control & Environmental Engineering, Pondicherry (Central) University, Puducherry, with close to 20 years of experinece in teaching and research. She is a Gold Medalist in BSc and MSc and with MPhil and PhD in Environmental Science & Engineering. She was awarded CSIR-Senior Research Fellowship, and CSIR-Research Associateship. She is awarded ‘Best Teacher Award’, Pondicherry University for the years 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2022. Her research interests are solid waste management, nutriient dynamics of soil, wastewater treatment, energy, microbial fuel cells, She has guided 21 MPhil and more than 50 MTech students, 11 PhD and guiding 4 PhD currently. To her credit she has published over 60 publications in peer reviewed prestigious journals. She has authored/edited three books, and contributed 14 chapters in other books. She is granted two patents on a unique wastewater treatment process and on novel process for ligninous waste treatment. Her team was selected for Global Grand Finals for the start up project on ‘ Green Voltz-Cera Tech System’, a ceramic based Plant Microbial Fuel Cells, Climate Launchpad 2019, Coordinated by Association for Promoting Sustainability in Campuses & Community, Puducherry. She has been a contributor for developing a comprehensive Green protocol for educational institutions, industries, residences, and other organizations of the Union Terrirory of Puducherry, in association with the Pondicherry Pollution Control Committee, Department of Science Technology & Environment Pondicherry. She has been Resource Person for the Certificate Course in Pollution Monitors (Air and Water), Green skill development program sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) New Delhi, Government of India. She is a Member, ENVIS Advisory Committee (EAC) and Member, ENVIS Consultancy Evaluation Committee for necessary guidance and review of the activities of the ENVIS Centre on status of environment and its related issues hosted by the Puducherry Pollution Control Committee, Puducherry. She was the Nodal Officer, Pondicherry University for the CPCB project. She is a member of the State/UT level expert appraisal committee for Puducherry, constituted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
