Dr. V. S. Vaidyanathan
About
Research Area
I hold a Master’s and Doctoral degree in Statistics from the University of Madras, India. My passion for the field has driven my career in both teaching and research. I began my academic journey at the Department of Statistics, Loyola College, Chennai, India, where I taught for a decade before joining Pondicherry University in 2010. Currently, I am a Professor of Statistics at Pondicherry University.
With over two decades of experience, I have taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Statistics, including Statistical Inference, Regression Analysis, Linear Algebra, Distribution Theory, Data Mining, and Programming in R. My research expertise lies in statistical inference and probability distributions, with specific interests in inference for queueing models, parametric estimation in mixture models, modelling count data, directional statistics, and data mining techniques.
I have successfully completed two research projects funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. As an active member of several academic and professional organizations dedicated to the advancement of Statistics, I contribute to the field by delivering lectures at seminars, workshops, and conferences, as well as publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Additionally, I have reviewed research papers for several esteemed journals, including Communications in Statistics – Theory and Methods, Journal of Multivariate Analysis, Austrian Journal of Statistics, Journal of the Indian Society for Probability and Statistics, and Statistics and Applications.
