The Department of Library and Information Science, Pondicherry University, celebrated National Librarian’s Day  with enthusiasm and academic fervour on 12 August 2026, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the father of library science in India. The programme featured an invited lecture, a dance performance, and a quiz competition, providing an engaging platform for students, research scholars, and faculty members to celebrate the significant contributions of libraries and librarians to education, research, and society.

As part of the programme, Prof. Clement S. Lourdes, Former Director, Culture & Cultural Relations, Pondicherry University, delivered an insightful invited lecture on “Books that Changed the World.” In his lecture, he highlighted the transformative power of books and their enduring influence on human knowledge, society, culture, and intellectual development. The lecture was well received by the students, research scholars, and faculty members.

A quiz competition was also organised as part of the celebration to engage the participants and enhance their knowledge of libraries, authors, and related areas. The winners of the quiz competition were felicitated with prizes during the programme.
