  Course on Quantitative Techniques and Applications for Research in Politics & International Studies

Department of Politics & International Studies

The Department of Politics & International Studies, School of Social Sciences is organising a course on Quantitative Techniques and Applications for the benefit of MPhil and PhD students in the discipline of Politics and International Studies and allied areas from October 30, 2008 to November 12,2008.

OBJECTIVES

1. To introduce the participants to various methods and techniques of research in the field of Politics & International Studies.
2. To train the participants to apply statistical tools and handle data processing and analysis using statistical packages.
3. To enable the participants to prepare research designs and undertake studies independently.

COVERAGE

1. Introduction to Politics & International Studies Research.
2. Approaches to and types of Politics & International Studies Research
3. Formulation of Research design
4. Sampling Techniques
5. Statistical Methods for Social Science Research
6. Data Collection:
       i. Sources of Secondary data; and
       ii. Techniques of collection of primary data – schedules and questionnaire, interview process,       scaling techniques etc.
7. Role of Computer in Politics & International Studies Research; Computer Exercises; Project Design            Exercises; Hands-on Training in SPSS.
8. Interpretation and generalization
9. Method of preparing research report

ELIGIBILITY

Young teachers and Research Scholars in the Department of Politics & International Studies and allied areas in the Universities and recognized Research Institutions in India are eligible to apply for the course.

DURATION

The Course is of Fourteen days Duration.

REGISTRATION FEE

Lecturer : Rs.1000.00 JRF – Rs.800.00 ;
Non-JRF – Rs.400.00 M.Phil – Rs.200.00

Organizers will take care of the boarding and lodging of the course participants and they will be reimbursed to and from sleeper class train fare through the shortest route.
