The Department of Ocean Studies and
Marine Biology is unique of its kind in the
country, established for providing training
and research in the fields of Ocean Studies ,
especially related to island environment.
This Department was commences as the
Centre of Ocean and Island Studies in the
year 2000-2001 and then upgraded in the
year 2004. The Departnment is located in
Port Blair, the picturesque capital of
Andaman and Nicobar Islands and offers
M.Sc. course in Marine Biology and
undetake research work leading to Ph.D.
degree.
The main objective of this Department is to
develop human resource to undertake Ocean
and Island related studies with a thrust on
the following areas: Biological Oceanography
and its resource potentiality, Development
of database on physical, chemical, geological
oceanographic aspects along with marine
environmental management.

The question paper will consist of objective
type questions. A majority of questions for
the common entrance examination would be
at the graduate level in Biology.
Ph.D. - Marine Biology
The question paper will consist of objective
type questions. A majority of questions for
the common entrance examination would be
at the Post-graduate level in Marine Biology.
M.Sc. - Coastal Disaster Management
The question paper will consist of objective
type questions. A majority of questions for
the common entrance examination would be
at the graduate level in hazards and earth
sciences.
Thrust Areas of Research
Coral reef environment monitoring - Fishery
sciences - Oceanography - Marine microbial
processes in corals and mangroves.
