Programe of Study

M.Sc. Sustainable Development (run in colloboration with Department of Scoiology; An Innovative Programme specially funded by UGC)

The decade of 2005-2015 has been declared by UN to be Sustainable Development Decade to underscore the vital importance of seitching over to a sustainable mode of living. Sine qua non for the success of the initiative is trained man-power to translate the policy into reality on the ground. To create empowered and enabled leaders to manage the transition to sustainability in India, Pondicherry University, in keeping with its mandate, has launched this unique 2-year learning based on hands-on interactions with practitioners and stakeholders. This Programme is INNOVATIVE, FUNDED by UGC in the X plan in the University. The learning programme consists of several courses at the cutting edge by the two Departments. The programme has a LARGE EXPERIENTIAL PART in that the students and teachers continually INTERACT WITH PRACTITIONERS AND STAKEHOLDERS BOTH IN THE CLASS ROOM AND IN THE FIELD. In the fourth semester the students would be undertaking an in-depth field based dissertation project. The first batch of students is yet to graduate. But the University is striving to ensure that the trained talent finds appropriate avenues that allow proper expression of capacity. To enable the students get hands on experience with using modern Information Technology for Sustainable Development, the University has EXCLUSIVE COMPUTATIONAL AND GIS FACILITIES for this programme.
