About Department

The Centre for Nanoscience and Technology was established in 2010 and it works in synergy with the other Science and Engineering Departments of the University. This Centre has approved faculty in the XI plan and function as an independent Centre. The Centre for Nanoscience and Technology has six faculty members (Two Associate Professors, Three Assistant Professors, One Guest Faculty and One DST-Inspire Faculty). All the faculty members possess a high research profile with the ability to conduct research in the forefront areas of Nanoscience and Technology. The faculty members  have received research funds to a tune of  more than Rs. 4 Crores from various funding agencies such as DST, CSIR, UGC, UGC-DAE, DRDO, ICMR, AICTE etc. In addition, the University has also sanctioned a special grant of Rs. 5 Crores for the development of the Centre. The faculty members of the Centre have been published more than 400 research articles in the International Journals and also have been taken more than 20 patents. The Centre has taken initiation to undertake many collaborative research work and consultancy services. The Centre is proud of its Alumni in various spheres of learning and research both Nationally and Internationally. 

 

Entrance Examination

M.Tech. - Nanoscience and Technology:
The admission is based on the entrance test conducted by Pondicherry University and the question paper consists of 100 objective type questions, covering the basic Sciences (Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry/Materials Science /Biotechnology) at the undergraduate level.
Eligibility:
A candidate having BE / B.Tech in Nanoscience and Technology, Polymer Science and Engg., Electrical and Electronics Engg., Electronics and Communication/Instrumentation Engg., Chemical Engg./Technology, Materials Science and Engg., Mechanical Engg., Metallurgical Engg., Energy Technology, Biotechnology and other relevant subjects with a minimum of 55% of marks (OR) Masters degree in Physics/Applied Electronics / Chemistry / Applied Chemistry/ Materials Science / Nanoscience and Technology / Biotechnology / Bio-Chemistry with a minimum of 55% of marks.

Ph.D. - Nanoscience and Technology:
The admission is based on the entrance examination and interview. The question paper consists of 100 objective type questions, covering the subject areas of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Biotechnology at graduate and post graduate levels. The candidates who qualified the JRF/SRF etc. are exempted for writing the University entrance examination.
Eligibility: A candidate having M.Tech in Nanoscience and Technology / Nanotechnology / Nano-Electronics/Nano-Biotechnology with the background of Electrical / Electronics/ Instrumentation/ Chemical / Mechanical / Metallurgical Engineering / Polymer Science and Engg., Materials Science and Engg., Energy Technology, Biotechnology and other relevant subjects with a minimum of 55% of marks (OR) Masters degree in Physics /Applied Physics/Chemistry/ Applied Chemistry/ Materials Science / Biotechnology / Bio-Chemistry with a minimum of 55% of marks.

Integrated M.Tech. - Ph.D. - Nanoscience and Technology:
No separate application and entrance examination for the Integrated M.Tech. – Ph.D. Programme. The admission is based on the merit list of entrance examination of the regular M.Tech program. A candidate joining the Integrated M.Tech.- Ph.D. program shall get a monthly stipend of Rs.1000/- for four semesters (20 months) and Rs.8000/- per month plus an annual contingency of Rs.10,000/- for the next three years. It may be extendable for one more year.

Infrastructure Facilities

The Centre has excellent working culture and facilities to carry out research in the emerging areas of Nanoscience and Technology. Research facilities include High speed computer cluster for modeling and simulation, X-ray diffractometer, Nanoindenter, Electrochemical workstation with AC-impedance analyzer, Battery cycle tester, E-beam and thermal coating unit, UV-Visible spectrometer, Spectrofluorometer, Solar simulator with J-V measurement system, Ultrasonic-homogenizer, High speed centrifuge, Milli Quest (Millipore) water purifier, Quartz double distillation unit, Electrospinning unit, Ball milling Unit, Glove box, Vacuum oven, Digital electronic balance, Precision Spin & Dip coating units, High temperature tubular and Muffle furnaces, LCZ meter etc. Additional characterization facilities can also be availed from Central Instrumentation Facilities (CIF) of the Pondicherry University.
